Where is #Christian-Chat ?

We are on two servers systems (networks) on Internet Relay Chat.

We were first established on undernet.org, and later joined starlink-irc.org as well.

IRC is different from the World Wide Web, but in some cases you can connect from the web; we have such a connection page for both Undernet and starlink-irc.org

Please take this link to explore our version of chatting...

      #Christian-Chat's aims...

We are an alternative and established Christian chatting channel where Christians and
non-Christians are welcome to drop in, have a cup of coffee, share a few thoughts, have
fellowship with one another, and expect a consistent application of aims and policies.

Emphasis will be placed on mutual brotherly/sisterly love and friendship, and a desire to
help one other with day-to-day and ongoing problems.

If you need someone to talk to, we hope you will find someone helpful here when you
      drop by.

We are hoping to establish a message board where cries for help, general greetings,
and all sorts of stuff can be left. We will let you know when that is working.

      #Christian-Chat's Policies...

      This could also be subtitled...

      RULES FOR ALL CHANNEL USERS

The same rules apply to all, and the chanel operators set the standard to which all guests are expected to adhere. While it is several years since this was spelled out, we make the point once again for clarification..

This has become quite a negative page. We are sorry about that. A small number of people spoil it for the rest of us.

Unfortunately, there are people who try to find their way around rules. We originally had very few rules at all, we just expected people to have common sense and good manners - including some Christians. Now it looks like we need to create a whole section of rules on our website.

Multiple logins, and bot-like operations in #Christian-Chat...

Other channels have extremely rigid policies on these associated subjects. We now have had to cross t's and dot i's because of some guests insisting on doing their own thing.

By definition, a "Bot" (short for robot) is an unattended chat program that is on-line and logged into a channel.

Not all bots can be, or are, controlled remotely, either for attacking purposes (example a "war bot") or for defensive purposes (example a channel control bot).

We already have plenty of bots.

In the past we have had to put permanent bans on some bots and their owners because they didn't have good manners and agree when we asked them not to park them.

Another purpose for a bot is to log all the conversations. We already have two of these, and the channel operators are aware of where the logs can be viewed.

We don't need any more logging, thanks. I would ask those who want to log while they are away... if they would like to have a phone answering machine going 24/7 on their phone line? Or if they would like a microphone in every room of their house?

Such activities are really little better than snooping, really, when you look at it like that.

Now this is the problem over people being in channel while they are sleeping, or at work (with home computer still logged in) or at home with work computer still logged in... and is much more noticeable since Cable or DSL (phoneline broadband) internet became the regular way to connect.

So, please, when you have finished talking, please disconnect unless there is a good rerason - like humungous netsplits - that can need "extra help".

The other thing, associated with this, is having several chat programs, usually (but not necessarily) on different computers, which is referred to as "clones".

We don't mind someone on an unreliable connection to have a clone, which usually alternates with the other chat program. They can be recognised as quitting very frequently.

There is absolutely no need to have another chat program on continually in #Christian-Chat. So please, would you not do so. Thank you.

If an op asks a guest to remove a clone, or to log out when they are not there, channel policy is that the op's request will be supported by management.

The Channel Manager is responsible to the network for the channel, and the ops' responsibility is to implement the policies laid down for peaceful operation of the channel so that the purpose of the channel is maintained.

If necessary, the OFFICIAL channel logs may be consulted in support of the op's actions.
